    Detailed Description

bazunspecified mutant germ-line clones contain the normal complement of germ-line nuclei, but fail to differtiate an oocyte resulting in an 16 nurse cell phenotype as revealed by the polypliod state of all 16 germ-line nuclei. Depletion of baz function from the follicle cells leads to their multilayering, which disrupts the normal partitioning of germ-line nuclei to successively mature egg chambers caused by mispositioning of mutant follicle cells. IN bazunspecified mutant germ-line cysts ring canal distribution and spatioal distribution are indistinguishable from wild-type. However mutant cysts display relatively normal fusome morphology, although mutant fusome branches appear slightly thinner.

Slight irregularities in the epithelium are seen during germ band extension in hemizygous embryos. Widespread defects in epithelial structure become obvious from germ band retraction onwards; cell shape is abnormal, cells lose their contacts and the epidermis has a highly irregular structure.

In bazunspecified insc22 double mutant neuroblasts, both centrosomes are associated with astral microtubules, with a cap structure forming over each centrosome from metaphase onwards. This phenotype is not observed in single mutants for these genes.
