Excision of the gypsy element with one long terminal repeat remaining at the insertion site.
The progenitor of this allele (a y2s mutation) has a 1.2kb P-element inserted 69bp upstream of the y transcription start site, together with deletion of y sequence from -146bp to -70bp. The P-element is transcribed in the opposite orientation to that of the y gene. The progenitor also contains the gypsy insertion of y2. y+s7 results from excision of the gypsy element, leaving one LTR at the insertion site.
Body colour: flies have wild-type pigmentation.
ph-pP1, y+s7 has abnormal body color phenotype
ph-pP1, y+s7 has adult cuticle phenotype
ph-pP1, y+s7 has prothoracic leg sensillum phenotype
ph-pP1, y+s7 has mesothoracic leg sensillum phenotype
ph-pP1, y+s7 has metathoracic leg sensillum phenotype
Body colour: y+s7 ph-pP1 flies have reduced pigmentation of the body, and of the thoracic and leg bristles. Homozygous y+s7 females have a stronger mutant phenotype than y+s7/y1 females in the presence of ph-pP1. y+s7/y1s8, y+s7/yds62 and y+s7/y2s11 females have a stronger mutant phenotype than homozygous y+s7 females in the presence of ph-pP1.
