Description

The lesion in y2s20 is the same as in y2s14.

Insertion of a 1.2kb P-element 69bp upstream of the y transcription start site, together with deletion of y sequence from -146bp to -70bp. The P-element is internally deleted, containing 829bp of 5' sequence and 347bp of 3' sequence, with the filler sequence TAGCTACAAA in between. The P-element is transcribed in the opposite orientation to that of the y gene.

Body colour: flies have reduced pigmentation in the body cuticle and wing blade and wild-type pigmentation in the thoracic, leg, wing and abdominal bristles.

Body colour: pigmentation of the body and wings is reduced, pigmentation of thoracic, leg, wing and abdominal bristles is normal.

In the presence of ph-pP1, pigmentation of the thoracic, leg, wing and abdominal bristles is reduced. This enhancement by ph-pP1 is completely suppressed by su(Hw)2/su(Hw)V.

The phenotype is enhanced by ph-pP1; pigmentation of thoracic, leg, wing and abdominal bristles is also reduced in y2s14 ph-pP1 flies. Homozygous y2s14 females have a stronger mutant phenotype than y2s14/y1 females in the presence of ph-pP1. y2s14/y1s8 and y2s14/y2s11 females have a stronger mutant phenotype than homozygous y2s14 females in the presence of ph-pP1.

The mutant phenotype is completely suppressed by su(Hw)V/su(Hw)2.
