Expression of Ocun\PKI^{Scer\UAS.T:Zzzz\FLAG}, under the control of Scer\GAL4^eve.RN2O, in aCC/RP2 neurons does not affect membrane excitability.

Expression of Ocun\PKI^{Scer\UAS.T:Zzzz\FLAG} under the control of Scer\GAL4^nos.PG does not result in binucleate nurse cells in egg chambers.

Expression of insertion P{UAS-Ocun\PKI.F}12-2 in a Scer\GAL4^KO5 background allows partial survival; 27 with a sibling class of 123, as compared to near complete lethality in Scer\GAL4^JW1, Scer\GAL4^PP3, and Scer\GAL4^RK5 backgrounds. Near complete lethality results for the insertions P{UAS-Ocun\PKI.F}1-1, 5-1 and 10-2 in the backgrounds, Scer\GAL4^KO5, Scer\GAL4^JW1, Scer\GAL4^PP3 and Scer\GAL4^RK5. Most lethality caused by expression of Ocun\PKI^{Scer\UAS.T:Zzzz\FLAG} occurs at hatching or during the larval stages. Of the few larvae that eventually pupate, some produce small but morphologically normal adult flies, some as small as half size. These small flies emerge from small pupal cases, indicating that their size is a result of retarded larval development. Expression of insertion P{UAS-Ocun\PKI.F}5-1 in a Scer\GAL4^RZ4 background produces adult flies that vary in size due to retarded larval growth, but always have normal morphology, unlike the expression of P{UAS-Pka-R1.BDK}35 in the same background. P{UAS-Ocun\PKI.F} in a Scer\GAL4^e22c background causes larval lethality, though with a normal morphology, unlike P{UAS-Pka-R1.BDK}. The larvae linger for many days with little growth before dying. Some survivors emerge as normal adults. Expression driven by Scer\GAL4^h-1J3 causes no effect on viability and adults are normal.

Produces an active PKA inhibitor protein; expression during larval development severely retards growth, leading to eventual death or to tiny adult flies. When expression is driven by Scer\GAL4^71B or Scer\GAL4^30A, no abnormalities in the wing result.

Able to suppress wing vein expansion caused by overexpression of protein kinase A catalytic subunit.
