Amino acid change:

W282term | mr-PA

Reported amino acid change:

W282term

Comment:

G to A nucleotide change at the second or third position of the wild type Trp codon leads to a nonsense mutation (exact site of mutation unspecified). The mutation was annotated at the second base of the codon.

Detailed Description
Statement
Reference

Synapses at the neuromuscular junction are greatly expanded in mr3 homozygous third instar larvae compared to controls. The size of individual boutons is similar at the mutant synapse is similar to that of controls, but the number of boutons per synapse is almost doubled compared to wild type. There is no significant increase in branching at the mutant synapse. The amplitudes of both spontaneous excitatory junctional potentials (mEJPs) and evoked EJPs are greater in homozygous larvae than in controls. Quantal content is not significantly increased in mutant neuromuscular junctions and the frequency of spontaneous events is not significantly altered. No obvious defects in pre- and postsynaptic ultrastructure are seen in mutant neuromuscular junctions and synaptic vesicle size is not significantly altered compared to wild type.

The increased number of boutons per synapse seen at the neuromuscular junction of mr3 homozygous third instar larvae is strongly suppressed by Liprin-α1J-0/+ and is completely suppressed by Liprin-α1J-0/Liprin-α1J-0.
