The neuropile is disorganised in embryos expressing egScer\UAS.cDa under the control of Scer\GAL4sca-537.4. Most embryos expressing egScer\UAS.cDa under the control of Scer\GAL4sca-537.4 hatch, giving rise to first instar larvae with 1 to 2 ectopic serotonergic cells in most hemisegments. First instar larvae derived from embryos expressing egScer\UAS.cDa under the control of Scer\GAL4elav-C155 or Scer\GAL4en-e16E do not contain ectopic serotonergic cells.

Expression of egScer\UAS.cDa under the control of Scer\GAL4kni.L2 restores wing vein L2 formation in kniri-1 flies. The restored L2 vein is decorated with a line of ectopic sensory bristles (these ectopic bristles are also seen when egScer\UAS.cDa is expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4kni.L2 in a wild-type background).
The dorsal open phenotype caused by expression of egScer\UAS.cDa under the control of Scer\GAL4pnr-MD237 is enhanced by kay1. The dorsal closure phenotype caused by expression of egScer\UAS.cDa under the control of Scer\GAL4pnr-MD237 is suppressed by pucE69.
Most of the ectopic serotonergic cells and most of the wild-type serotonergic cells are missing if larvae expressing egScer\UAS.cDa under the control of Scer\GAL4sca-537.4 are also homozygous for hkb2.
