In htlS1-28 mutant embryos the hindgut epithelial tube is not covered by visceral mesoderm. These embryos show normal handedness in the hindgut.
The development of the hindgut ectoderm is relatively normal, but the hindgut visceral muscle fails to differentiate altogether. Defects in the HVM first appear at stage 11, when the HVM begins ot move over the hindgut ectoderm.
htlS1-28/Df(3R)sr16 embryos show loss of the heart and have severely defective somatic and visceral muscles. Interface glial (IG) cells are disorganised and show a significant reduction in migration rate compared to wild-type in stage 12/13 embryos. The cells are rounded unlike wild-type cells. At stage 16, the LG cells do not line up as two files and do not appear to wrap around the longitudinal axon tracts.
htlS1-28 has hindgut visceral muscle fiber phenotype, suppressible by Scer\GAL4twi.PB/Ras85DG13Q.UAS
