There is a delay in GMC-1 entering G2-phase in embryos that are ectopically expressing stg.

stg overproduction induces mitoses in the dorsal and ventral anterior domains of the ZNC in the developing wing.

Heat induced expression causes precocious mitoses and the formation of sensory mother cells is disturbed, resulting in the loss of macrochaetes in the adult notum.

Heat shock of wandering stage third instar larvae causes cells, across all developmental compartments of the wing disk, to enter premature mitoses. Ectopically induced mitoses display the normal progression of mitotic events. Ectopic induction results in mitoses in 30% of wing disc cells. Complete mitoses occur among the bristle progenitor cells as a consequence of ectopic stg expression. The minimum heat shock time required to induce mitoses is approximately 10 minutes. Abdominal histoblasts are refractory to ectopic stg expression. Ectopic stg expression results in mitoses just posterior to the furrow in the eye disc, no mitoses are observed in the furrow itself. Induced mitoses in eye discs show normal progression of mitotic events. Heat induced third instar larvae develop into adults indistinguishable from wild-type.

Heat shock 160-185 minutes after egg deposition causes the mitotic times of all embryonic cells, except those in the amnioserosa and mitotic domain B that are normally nondividing, to advance. The length of the S phase is unaltered. Heat shocked stg proteins can only induce mitotic divisions in G2 cells. Heat shock of G2 cells of cycle 14 causes all cells, including those from the amnioserosa, to enter S phase. By varying the time of heat pulses cells can only be induced to divide very early in G2 of interphase 16.

Wing disc compartments expressing Ras85DV12.Scer\UAS, dlg1GD4689, Pi3K92EGD11228, together with CycEScer\UAS.cRa and stghs.PE2 show a rescue in compartment size and high levels of His3-positive cells.

Coexpression of the transgenes, cdc2hs.PS, CycBΔ90, and CycB3Δ, does not restore the entry of epidermal cells in CycAC8LR1 embryos into mitosis 16.

Myb2 mutant pupae carrying stghs.PE2 raised at 25oC exhibit partial suppression of the wing phenotype, the number of hairs is increased by 30-35% and the orientation of the hairs is corrected.
