dalyh homozygotes that are also expressing dahs.PSP show formation of ectopic stalks at the expense of the follicular epithelium in the ovaries; partially exposed germline cysts with stalk-like somatic cells that stretch along the cyst are seen. Females expressing dahs.PSP using pulses of heat shock at 37oC show elongation of the germarium, due to failure of cysts in region 2b to compress into their normal lens shape, retention of intact older follicles that never individualise and narrow and elongated posterior regions. Cells anterior to unbudded follicles fail to differentiate into stalks. The somatic cells in regions 2b and 3 of the germarium and surrounding the attached follicles appear to squeeze the underlying germline cysts.

Overexpression of dahs.PSP (using heat shock at 37oC) in an otherwise wild-type background results in ovariole defects.

Rescues lethality of da2/da7 or da1/da2, and females show same follicular phenotype as das22/da7.
