Overexpression of CycEhs.PO results in an extra mitotic division in 6% of egg chambers.

When CycAhs.PK is over-expressed in adult females no effect on germline cysts is detectable.

CycE overproduction leads to entry into S phase only in the central domain of the anterior ZNC in the developing wing, but in the posterior ZNC most cells entered S phase.

Heat shocked females show late replication in more than 10% of BrdU-incorporating nuclei in both polyploid nurse and follicle cells.

Expression by heat shock of CycEhs.PO in pupae 4-8 hours after puparium formation causes the wing margin cells and a few cells of the distal wing blade to enter S phase. Expression by heat shock of CycEhs.PO in pupae 20-24 hours after puparium formation causes wing cells, except the wing margin and middle intervein cells, to enter S phase. Expression by heat shock of CycEhs.PO in pupae 24-28 hours after puparium formation causes only the replication of intervein cells adjacent to the veins. Adult wings derived from heat shocked pupae show no increase in the number of cells compared to wild-type.

Heat shock at 37oC for 30 minutes at stage 11 of embryogenesis triggers progression through an extra mitosis. Anaphase figures in treated embryos appear normal and do not display chromosome bridges, indicating that DNA replication in the extra S phase was complete.

The loss of denticle belt A5 and gap in denticle belt A4 seen in hop2 germ-line clone embryos is suppressed by CycEhs.PO, although the two rescued denticle belts tend to fuse with each other laterally.
