Description

Insertion of a P-element which has a deletion of bases 1862-2015 with a 2bp AT insertion at the deletion site. The inserted element also has a single A to T transversion at position 32.

P element insertion.

Novel recruitment of additional P-element sequences.

Detailed Description

Homozygotes and vg21-3/Df(2R)vg-B animals show severe defects in the wing.

vg21-3/Df(2R)vg-B flies show a strong vestigial wing phenotype.

Homozygotes: extreme wing phenotype. Heterozygotes with Df(2R)vg-B in M cytotype: extreme wing phenotype. Heterozygotes with Df(2R)vg-B in cytotype: wild type wing phenotype.

Extreme vg phenotype, fully vestigal wing, in a M cytotype that maybe partially or completely suppressed in a P cytotype. A single repressor making P-element can suppress the vg phenotype, increasing repressor strength causes gradual increase in wing material to wild type.

Homozygotes have no wings.

Exhibits a mutant phenotype in M cytotype, but is suppressed in a P cytotype.

Homozygotes display an extreme vg phenotype, heterozygotes with vg1 are completely suppressed when in the P-cytotype and the M-cytotype has no effect.

Additional Comments
Genetic Interactions
Statement

The severe wing defects seen in vg21-3 homozygotes are completely suppressed by the presence of P\TSal.

The severe wing defects seen in vg21-3/Df(2R)vg-B animals are almost completely suppressed by the presence of P\TSal.

The strong vestigial wing phenotype of vg21-3/Df(2R)vg-B animals is suppressed by P{P-Sal}89D. This suppression of the phenotype by P{P-Sal}89D is not affected by the presence of Su(var)3-7P9.
