    Homozygotes have extra wing veins.

Excess wing veins appear between L1 and L3, and posterior to L4. The L3-L4 territory is usually clear of veins except for an ectopic longitudinal vein reaching directly inwards from the wing margin. The L3-L4 territory is wider than in wild type, due to an increase in cell number. The phenotype is more pronounced when px72 is heterozygous with Df(2R)X58-5. Shows no defect outside the wing when homozygous.

Homozygotes have plexates mostly in the distal vein stretches of the wing, connecting and approaching LII and LIII on the one hand and LV on the other. Dorsal and ventral implants of px72 imaginal disc tissue into wild-type imaginal discs produce plexates between LII and LIII, and LIV and LV. Homozygous clones in the wing differentiate extra vein tissue between LII and LIII and between LIV and LV. Clones located in both surfaces of the wing have a stronger phenotype than those located on only one surface.

Appearance of distal extra longitudinal veins preferentially associated with plexi between LII and LIII on one side and between LIV and LV on the other.

    Reference

net1, px72 double mutants develop ectopic wing veins in the L2/L3 and L4/L5 intervein regions. This phenotype is suppressed in flies double heterozygous for osa308 and brm2.

The extra wing vein phenotype of px72 homozygotes is suppressed by emcD and enhanced by emc1/+ or emc1/emc11. The ectopic wing vein phenotype of px72 wings is exaggerated in regions occupied by emc1 homozygous clones. The borders of the emc1 clones respect not only normal veins as restriction borders, but also tend not to cross ectopic veins.

Transheterozygotes of px72 with bs03267 show ectopic venation.
