Description

Deletion in the promoter region.

450 bp upstream of the cDNA start site deleted.

Deletion of 437bp of 5' flanking region starting at one end of (and including most of) the P element, leaving intact the major transcription start sites of otu.

437bp deletion with the same downstream endpoint as otuPΔ6 : both retain the same 14bp sequence of the inverted repeat. Upstream boundary of the deletion is at -446, thus the deletion is less extensive than that of otuPΔ6, though both remove all known otu regulatory regions.

Deletion of approximately 450bp, upstream of the cDNA start site, leaving the coding region unaltered.

Detailed Description

The ring canals are devoid of fusome material and have inner rims that are indistinguishable from wild-type in homozygous females. Ring canals lacking both fusomes and an inner ring are also seen in these females and a number of ring canals that are a fraction of wild-type size are occasionally seen. Fusomes contain actin filaments.

When XY flies are transformed into pseudofemales by traHsp83.PS, otuPΔ3/Y flies produce primarily agametic pseudoovaries at frequencies similar to that obtained with otu10 and Df(1)otu-PΔ1.

Tumorous ovaries.

Few quiescent ovaries though majority show tumorigenic phenotype with occasional mature cysts.

Homozygous females have tumorous ovaries, hemizygous females have quiescent ovaries.

otuPΔ3 is partially rescued by otuhs.PN

Comments

One or two copies of otuhs.PN causes substantial morphological suppression but only partial suppression of sterility.
