Description

Insertion of a copia element at position 904bp within the sc gene, near the end of the coding region.

Product lacks the C-terminal peptide.

Antiparallel copia insertion in an exon.

copia element insertion in the opposite orientation into an exon generating a truncated RNA.

A copia insert into sc coding region. Complete copia element inserted into T4, the presumed sc structural gene, about one third of the distance from termination of the transcription unit. The scHw-Ua transcript carries the 5' two-thirds of the presumptive sc and terminates in copia. Transcript present in excess in early larvae but not in crawling larvae or early pupae.

Detailed Description
Statement
Reference

Mutant flies often have ectopic bristles on the notum at 18[o]C; 35% of heminota have one ectopic bristle and 35% of heminota have more than one ectopic bristle.

Doa mutants cause suppression of scHw-Ua and result in loss of scutellar bristles.

Differentiation of extra chaetes on the cuticle.

Weak acHw-1 phenotype in heterozygous females. Phenotype only slightly enhanced by suppressing the pre-existing sc1 allele with su(Hw)2.

Additional Comments
Genetic Interactions
Statement
Reference

scHw-Ua RelE20 flies show one ectopic macrochaeta in 13% of heminota more than one ectopic macrochaeta in 85% of heminota analysed at 18[o]C.

Causes partial suppression of the sc phenotype. Mutations in su(f), E(wa) and mw had no effect on the phenotype.
