Insertion of a gypsy element.
Insertion of gypsy element.
gypsy at 1.9 to 2.4; (Carramolino, Ruiz-Gomez, Guerrero, Campuzano, and Modolell (1982) and Campuzano, Carramolino, Cabrera, Ruiz-Gomez, Villares, Boronat and Modolell (1985). 0 defined as the more distal EcoRI site within the scS2 molecular deficiency; positive values extend to the left.)
sc1 mutant adults do not display changes in the number of scutellar bristles, as compared to controls.
sc1 mutants completely lack scutellar bristles. sc1 mutant 'rescue' flies that express either scScer\UAS.cQa or scSA.Scer\UAS.cQa under the control of Scer\GAL4cv-c-C5 do not lack scutellar macrochaetae (although their number is decreased compared to wild-type) but in addition they also display ectopic short bristles on the scutellum.
The scutellar bristle fate show temperature dependence in sc1 flies, with the probably of sensory bristle fate being inversely proportional to the temperature.
Homozygotes exhibit loss of a third to half of the wing margin chemoreceptors. Double mutants with ctL32 exhibit an extreme wing phenotype lacking almost all the chemoreceptors and mechanoreceptors.
The number of bractless bristles on the basitarsi of the second legs is reduced.
Flies show a loss or reduction in the number of scutellar, anterior dorsocentral, first and second orbital, ocellar and some other bristles.
Causes loss or marked reduction in number of scutellar, coxal, ocellar, first and second orbital, anterior notopleural, postvertical, tergital and sternal bristles. Bristle sockets missing; bristle cells absent 19 hr after pupation, when normally present (Lees and Waddington, 1942; Lees and Waddington, 1943). Suppressed by su(Hw) and su(Hw)2. RK1. Revertable by X rays (Green, 1961).

Flies carrying either sensm1, sensm2 or sensm1m2 in a sensE1 background show enhanced temperature dependence of the scutellar bristle phenotype (loss of scutellar bristles) of sc1 flies compared to controls carrying sens+t18.1 in a sc1 sensE1 background.
mir-9aunspecified/+ enhances the temperature dependence of the scutellar bristle phenotype (loss of scutellar bristles) of sc1 flies.
The phenotype is affected by mod(mdg4)ul; the ocellar, first and second orbital, and postvertical bristles are present, while the scutellar bristles are lost completely.
sc1 is partially rescued by scUAS.cQa/Scer\GAL4cv-c-C5
sc1 is partially rescued by Scer\GAL4cv-c-C5/scSA.UAS.cQa
sc1 is not rescued by scSD.UAS.cQa/Scer\GAL4cv-c-C5
The loss of scutellar macrochaetae characteristic for sc1 mutant adults is partially rescued by expression of either scScer\UAS.cQa or scSA.Scer\UAS.cQa (but not scSD.Scer\UAS.cQa) under the control of Scer\GAL4cv-c-C5, which however also results in formation of ectopic short bristles on the scutellum.
