Sxlf1/+ chromosomal females also homozygous or heterozygous msl-22 show variable transformation of sexually dimorphic structures to male characteristics. The frequency of transformation is not high, is higher in females homozygous (rather than heterozygous) for msl-22, and expression is incomplete. The frequency of transformation is higher in female flies with mothers homozygous msl-22. Sex combs are only seen in Sxlf1/+ females homozygous for msl-22.
