Dominant enhancer of position effect variegation at the w locus caused by In(1)wm4h.

Enhancement of position-effect variegation overrides the strong suppression effect of extra Y heterochromatin.

Dominant enhancer of w variegation caused by In(1)wm4h, T(1;4)wm5, T(1;4)wm258-18 and T(1;4)wm258-21. Homozygous flies carrying In(1)wm4h also show position effect variegation of rst. Significantly increases heterochromatinisation in flies carrying T(1;4)wm258-21. Dominant enhancer of sc, ac and y variegation caused by In(1)sc8. Dominant enhancer of bb variegation caused by In(1)scS1. Dominant suppressor of bw variegation caused by T(2;3)bwVDe3 and In(2LR)bwV32g. T(1;2)N264-10 flies carrying E(var)c1011 sometimes show variegation for w.

Produces white eyes with occasional single red facets in combination with In(1)wm4h.
