dpyov1 mutants exhibit epidermal invaginations or elevations on the notum at the muscle insertion sites of DLM (comma phenotype), as well as a oblique wing.

dpyov1 homozygotes show a small, oblique wing phenotype.

dpyov1 mutant wing blades exhibit collapse of the distal tip: the 'dumpy' phenotype.

dpyo2/dpyov1 mutant wing blades exhibit complete retraction of the wing blade: the 'truncate' phenotype.

Mutant flies show significantly increased survival compared to wild-type flies after infection with E. chaffeensis. Bacterial replication is significantly reduced in the mutant flies compared to wild type.

Mutant flies have anterior indentations in the notum epidermis.

"ov" class allele.

dpov1 embryos do not show defects in tracheal tube length and do not show breaks in the tracheal branches.

dpTC4/dpov1 flies have "lopped" and "vortex" phenotypes. Body and leg size are reduced.

Oblique wing phenotype (o). Thoracic vortex phenotype (v). Wings reduced one-third and have oblique truncation; angle between veins L2 and L3 widened; intercrossvein distances shortened; marginal vein intact; two vortices with whorls of hairs in dorsocentral region; dorsocentral bristles medially displaced; vortex expression in most flies at 26oC; comma effect in anterior thorax also present in most flies at 26oC. At lower temperatures, wing effect persists, but thorax appears normal. Body and leg size normal except at temperatures above 28oC, when they are somewhat reduced. RK1.

chas1 dpov1 double mutants show enhanced indentations of the anterior notum epidermis and enhanced planar polarity defects compared to either single mutant.

The tracheal tube length defects caused by varif00033 are enhanced if the embryos are also mutant for dpov1.

The oblique wing phenotype is suppressed in homozygous su(dpov)1, su(dpov)2 or su(dpov)3 flies. The vortex (thoracic invagination) phenotype is suppressed in homozygous su(dpov)1 flies. The wing phenotype of dpov1/dpo2 flies is totally suppressed by su(dpov)1, su(dpov)2 or su(dpov)3.

Comments

Aspartate transcarbamylase (ATCase), orotate phosphoribosyltransferase (OPRTase) and orotidine-5'-phosphate decarboxylase (ODCase) activity is elevated in dpov1 flies and normalised in su(dpov)1 dpov1 flies.
