ct6 homozygotes do not show significant mortality during the pharate stage.

ctA/ct6 transheterozygotes exhibit a cut-wing phenotype, as compared to controls

ct6/+ wings are similar to wild type.

ct6 mutant late third instar wing discs have disturbed dorsal-ventral (DV) boundaries compared to controls. The anterior-posterior boundary is unaffected.

ct6 wings have a notched edge.

ct6 mutants show wing margin defects.

ct6 mutant animals develop "cut" wings, missing regions of the wing margin.

ct6 mutants exhibit a jagged or cut appearance of the fly wing edge.

Hemizygotes show a reduction in the numbers of wing margin bristles and and incised wing margin and wing blade.

Severe cuts in the wing margin.

Shows no interaction with pb mutations.

Homozygotes lack wing margin tissue in distal and posterior regions of the wing.

ct6 is strongly suppressed by mod(mdg4)ul : only 20% of flies have one to five gaps in the wing margin. Strong and weak su(Hw) mutations, with or without mod(mdg4)ul, completely suppress the ct6 phenotype. su(Hw)J and su(Hw)Δ100 slightly suppress the phenotype of ct6 unless in combination with mod(mdg4)ul, when the phenotype is completely suppressed.

The ct6 phenotype is not suppressed in flies carrying su(Hw)wt or su(Hw)Δ656-705 in a su(Hw)7/su(Hw)V background, slightly suppressed in flies carrying su(Hw)Δ706-736 or su(Hw)Δ881-944 in a su(Hw)7/su(Hw)V background, and strongly or completely suppressed in flies carrying su(Hw)Δ673-943, su(Hw)Δ2-203.673-943, su(Hw)Δ738-780, su(Hw)Δ2-203, su(Hw)Δ853-880 or su(Hw)Δ782-944 in a su(Hw)7/su(Hw)V background.

Scalloped wing margin and lack of many sensory bristles at the anterior wing margin. All non-innervated hairs of the posterior wing margin are absent.

Homozygotes display cut wing and head capsule defects.

ct wing and vibrissae phenotype.

Geotaxis score significantly lower than for Canton S in a Hirsch-type geotaxis maze.

No embryonic phenotype.

When in combination with sc alleles ct6 exhibited excisions and hair reduction on the external edge of the wing.

Wings are cut to points, and the wing margins are scalloped.

Phenotype is not affected by DoaHD or Doa6.

Scalloped wings. Vibrissae are missing. Completely complemented by Df(1)R19.

Cell death observed in prepupal wing bud.

Wing bud narrower than wild type as early as just after eversion of wing in early pupa.

Cut wing character uniform and reliable; usually lacks the abdomen, antenna, arista, and eye effects of ct. Vibrissae gone or displaced downward to bottom of eye. RK1.

ct6, flam1 double homozygotes present significant lethality during the pharate stage, as compared to both ct6 and flam1 single homozygotes.

flamA/flam1, ctA/ct6 double transheterozygotes show a small but significant increase in mortality as compared to flamA/flam1 single heterozygotes.

ct6/+ suppresses the severity of decreases in wing size seen in Df(2R)mir-7-Δ1/Df(2R)exu1 flies.

Expression of su(Hw)T7.T:Hsap\MYC (in the presence of T7\RpT7Scer\UAS.T:SV40\nls2 under the control of Scer\GAL4Ser.PU, and in a sensitised mod(mdg4)ul mutant background) enhances the wing notching phenotype seen in ct6 mutants compared to controls.

Expression of Cp190T7.T:Hsap\MYC (in the presence of T7\RpT7Scer\UAS.T:SV40\nls2 under the control of Scer\GAL4Ser.PU, and in a sensitised mod(mdg4)ul mutant background) enhances the wing notching phenotype seen in ct6 mutants compared to controls.

Heterozygosity, but not homozygosity, for ToporsZ4522, ToporsZ1837 or Toporsf05115 restores the wing margin of ct6 flies.

Expression of Top2GD4570 in the prospective wing margin region of the developing wing under the control of Scer\GAL4bbg-C96 results in a decrease in gypsy insulator function and suppresses the ct6 phenotype back to wild-type.

Expression of su(Hw)GD4493 in the prospective wing margin region of the developing wing under the control of Scer\GAL4bbg-C96 results in a decrease in gypsy insulator function and suppresses the ct6 phenotype back to wild-type.

The wing margin phenotype of ct6 mutants is partially suppressed by Cp190En15/Cp190P11.

The wings of ct6; mod(mdg4)T6 mutants have underdeveloped margins.

The wing margin phenotype of ct6; mod(mdg4)T6 mutants is fully suppressed by Cp190En15.

The ct6 wing margin phenotype is partially suppressed by Cp190H4-1.

The ct6 wing margin phenotype is fully suppressed by Cp1903/Cp190P1.

mod(mdg4)ul and mod(mdg4)T6 mutations both suppress the "cut" wing phenotype observed in ct6 mutant flies, and the wing margins are fully restored in these animals.

ct6 mod(mdg4)ul double mutants exhibit a suppression of the ct6 jagged wing edge.

The transheterozygote lwr05486/smt304493 suppresses the mod(mdg4)ul suppression of the ct6 jagged wing phenotype, leading to a more jagged and discontinuous wing phenotype. The phenotype is also particularly pronounced in females, although it is detectable in both sexes.

The transheterozygote lwr02858/smt3k06307 suppresses the mod(mdg4)ul suppression of the ct6 jagged wing phenotype, leading to a more jagged and discontinuous wing phenotype. The phenotype is also particularly pronounced in females, although it is detectable in both sexes.

Expression of ToporsScer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP-EGFP under the control of Scer\GAL4Act partially suppresses the ability of mod(mdg4)ul to suppress the cut wing margin phenotype of ct6.

Expression of ToporsC118S.Scer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP-EGFP under the control of Scer\GAL4hs.PB does not suppress the ability of mod(mdg4)ul to suppress the cut wing margin phenotype of ct6.

Expression of wgScer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4C96 suppresses the loss of wing blade tissue, including the slender recurved chemosensory wing margin bristles, seen in ct6 flies, but does not rescue the loss of the stout mechanosensory wing margin bristles.

The shape and margins of the wings in y2 ct6; Df(3R)E(mod)4-1P11/Cp190H53-2 flies are normal, indicating complete suppression of ct6.

The wings of y2 ct6; Cp190H4-1 male flies are rounder in shape, suggesting that ct6 is partially suppressed, whereas the bristles are yellow, indicating that the y2 phenotype is altered. The body cuticle colour is only slightly darker in the background of the Cp190H4-1 mutation.

The ct6 wing margin phenotype is suppressed in ct6 mod(mdg4)ul double homozygotes, resulting in the restoration of the wing margin.

In combination with e(y)21 and zop6, mod(mdg4)ul almost completely suppresses the mutant phenotype of ct6. In combination with e(y)34 and zv77h, mod(mdg4)ul enhances the mutant phenotype of ct6, though the gaps in the wing margin are still randomly distributed. z1 and e(y)11 have no effect on the mod(mdg4)ul effect on ct6.

ct6; su(Hw)e2 flies display a scalloped cut wing phenotype with multiple nicks. Chie5.5; ct6 double heterozygotes display a visible cut wing phenotype.

Phenotype is partially suppressed by mod(mdg4)ul at 25oC, and completely suppressed by mod(mdg4)ul at 18oC.

Expression of mod(mdg4)Scer\UAS.cGa or mod(mdg4)ΔQ.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4Act5C in a ct6,mod(mdg4)ul mutant background suppresses the effect that mod(mdg4)ul has on ct6 wings, and the wings that form lack the wing margin and are similar to ct6 wings.

Highly unstable, showing increased incidence of lethal mutations, many of which are associated with chromosome aberrations broken in 6F (Lim). The gypsy sequence appears to be mobilized and transposed into other parts of the ct locus to produce new ct alleles or, when ct undergoes reversion, to other positions in the genome. Allele most used as genetic marker.
