The number of cells in the nau-expressing muscle precursor clusters is increased compared to wild-type in homozygous embryos and in homozygous embryos derived from homozygous female germline clones (lacking both maternal and zygotic function). The medial clusters expand across the midline.
bib7/bib8 embryos develop a hypertrophic nervous system at the expense of ventral cuticle. Homozygous clones in adult flies have moderately increased numbers of macrochaetae and microchaetae. These bristles have normal sockets innervated by single neurons. Homozygous clones in adult flies have moderately increased numbers of macrochaetae and microchaetae. Intermediate embryonic neurogenic phenotype.
bib7 is a non-suppressor of phenotype of Src42ASu(Raf)1-1
Does not suppress the ability of Src42ASu(phl)1-1 to suppress the lethality of phl1/Y flies.
bib7/bib8 is rescued by bibUAS.cDa/Scer\GAL4h-1J3
These embryos are rescued by bibScer\UAS.cDa expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4h-1J3, producing embryos with nearly wild-type thoracic and abdominal cuticle without any missing denticle belts in some cases. Hypertrophy of the peripheral nervous system is also reduced in these embryos.
Campos-Ortega.
Clonal analysis indicates that bib functions autonomously to inhibit neural development.
