Arg codon is CGG in reference strain and CGC in reported sequence (FBrf0080055). A CGC to TGC change is presumed to account for the reported R162C change in aurA3 (FBrf0144945). The same nucleotide change would cause a R162W mutation in the reference strain. The reduced kinase activity of the mutant is thought to be due to the mutation of this conserved Arg in the ATP binding pocket in subdomain I of the catalytic domain. Two other nucleotide changes were reported in the aurA3 mutant (not including an observed polymorphism).
