Detailed Description

Partial transposition of A2 towards A1 was observed in homozyous and heterozygous flies. A1 tergite shows some large bristles indicative of transformation towards a more posterior segment. The recessive transformation of A2 to A1 is mostly or entirely due to the activity of the gypsy transposon. Transheterozygous combinations with other 'iab-2'-class alleles display transformation of A2 towards A1.

Homozygous viable, causes a partial transformation of the adult second abdominal segment into the first.

Heterozygotes with abd-AS1, abd-AS2 and abd-Aiab2-S3 exhibit transformation of abdominal segment 2 to segment 1 identity.

Comments

Ectopic expression of the protein after retraction of germ band is enhanced if embryos are also homozygous for su(Hw)2 (FBrf0049558).

Homozygotes show little change in abd-A expression pattern.
