Construct: Hsp70 promoter sequences from position -50 to +271 (including the first 7 amino acids) are fused in frame to Ecol\lacZ, promoter sequences lack all of the heat shock elements shown to be required for heat inducibility.

Of 22 independent transformed lines analyzed, most showed little, if any, β-gal expression. However, some lines did show exhibit various levels of expression, the pattern varying from line to line. Such expression was usually observed in late embyogenesis, however some lines showed expression along the ventral midline at germ-band extension.
