In crosses here at the Bloomington Stock Center, I showed that P{lacW}l(2)k14204k14204 (FBti0006416) and P{PZ}l(2)0632006320 (FBti0005306) are viable in combination with Df(2L)s1402 (FBab0022233), a deletion removing the P insertion sites. Consequently, the lethalities of the P insertion chromosomes do not map to the insertion sites. In contrast, P{lacW}l(2)k05104k05104 (FBti0006820) was lethal in combination with Df(2L)30A-C (FBab0001390), Df(2L)N22-3 (FBab0001499), Df(2L)N22-5 (FBab0001500) and Df(2L)N22-14 (FBab0022196)--four deletions removing the P insertion site. This strongly suggests the lethality is caused by the P insertion. -- Kevin Cook, Ph.D. Bloomington Drosophila Stock Center http://flystocks.bio.indiana.edu
