transmembrane receptor that is dynamically expressed in all photoreceptor neurons and localizes predominantly to growth cones - regulates axon-axon and axon-target interactions in R8 photoreceptor axon - acts as a functional partner of Flamingo for R8 photoreceptor axon targeting in the medulla

AlphaFold produces a per-residue confidence score (pLDDT) between 0 and 100. Some regions with low pLDDT may be unstructured in isolation.

The testis specificity index was calculated from modENCODE tissue expression data by Vedelek et al., 2018 to indicate the degree of testis enrichment compared to other tissues. Scores range from -2.52 (underrepresented) to 5.2 (very high testis bias).
gogo mRNA in the eye disc region posterior to the morphogenetic furrow is expressed in a dotted manner, corresponding to the nascent R8 cells.
gogo transcipts were observed in third instar larvae in eye-antennal discs. They are expressed in developing photoreceptors posterior to the morphogenetic furrow. In the optic lobe gogo is expressed in a crescent surrounding the optic lobe center. gogo localizes predominantly along the axon and growth cones of R7 and R8 photoreceptors.
Expression of gogo protein is found in the tips of the R7 and/or R8 axons of third instar larvae through to at least 72hrs APF.
gogo protein is detected in the optic lobe and the retina in 24APF pupa. Strong expression is observed in the lamina and the medulla. gogo protein localizes to the termini of photoreceptor neurons and is most abundant in R7 and R8 termini. gogo protein shows strong stainingin R1-R6 axons during lamina cartridge formation. Overall gogo expression is reduced by 48APF.

Please Note This section lists cDNAs and ESTs that fall within the genomic extent of the gene model, which may include cDNAs and ESTs of genes within introns, or of overlapping genes. Please see JBrowse for alignment of the cDNAs and ESTs to the gene model.
For each fully sequenced cDNA the DGRC maintains various forms of the cDNA (e.g tagged or untagged) in several different host vectors for subsequent cloning and expression in Drosophila and Drosophila cell lines.
Eye-specific mosaic larvae of gogo show an abnormal overall structure with clumpings of axons bundles and the presence of gaps in the lamina and the medulla. In the adult fly pathfinding of R8s is disrupted, as neighboring R8s cross each other. In addition, target recognition is affected, as R8s inappropriately target the R7 layer.
