Gene Summary
Cyclin-dependent kinase subunit 30A (Cks30A) encodes a protein that promotes progression through female meiosis and the mitotic divisions of the early embryo. It interacts with the product of Cdk1 and is required in prometaphase for spindle assembly, and at the metaphase to anaphase transition for the destruction of the cyclin encoded by CycA. Protein Function (UniProtKB)
Binds to the catalytic subunit of the cyclin dependent kinases Cdk1 and Cdk2, and is essential for their biological function.
(UniProt, Q24152)
Phenotypic Description (Red Book; Lindsley and Zimm 1992)
rem: remnants (T. Schupbach)
Maternal effect lethal; eggs laid by females homozygous for rem1 show no visible sign of development when observed under transmitted light in stereomicroscope; eggs derived from rem2 often allow embryonic development; those embryos form fragmented cuticle with variable holes and head defects.
Summary (Interactive Fly)

Cyclin-dependent kinase regulatory subunit required for progression through female meiosis and the mitotic divisions of the early embryo through an interaction with Cdk1 (Cdc2)

Model Confidence:
  • Very high (pLDDT > 90)
  • Confident (90 > pLDDT > 70)
  • Low (70 > pLDDT > 50)
  • Very low (pLDDT < 50)

AlphaFold produces a per-residue confidence score (pLDDT) between 0 and 100. Some regions with low pLDDT may be unstructured in isolation.

Cks30A has a role in the metaphase to anaphase transition in female meiosis and in the mitotic divisions of the syncytial embryo.

dsRNA made from templates generated with primers directed against this gene tested in RNAi screen for effects on Kc167 and S2R+ cell morphology.

Isolated by interaction with cdc2 and cdc2c using the interaction trap two hybrid system.

Yeast two-hybrid system has been used to characterise Cyclin-dependent kinase interactor proteins (the prey) in hunts with either cdc2 or cdc2c as baits. Cks30A interacts with cdc2 cdc2c and CycJ, and other human and S.cerevisiae cyclin-dependent kinases to activate transcription of a reporter gene, Ecol\lacZ.

The yeast interaction trap selection has been used to isolate cell cycle regulatory proteins that interact with cdc2 and cdc2c. Cks30A interacts with cdc2 and cdc2c.

Mutations in Cks30A show a strict maternal effect phenotype with defects during presyncytial stages.
