kugΔICD.3xGFP mutant cells in mosaic follicular epithelia exhibit induction of leading edge protrusions cell autonomously, as well as non-cell-autonomously in the wild type cells directly behind kugΔICD.3xGFP cells. Protrusion formation only occurs at the leading edges of these cells, not in the lateral cell edges. kugΔICD.3xGFP mutant cells also exhibit significantly elongated basal surfaces, indicative of a defect in trailing edge retraction.
