Expression of shvScer\UAS.T:Ivir\HA1 under the control of either Scer\GAL4nSyb.PS or Scer\GAL4how-24B does not perturb synaptic growth as the number of boutons as well as immature, undifferentiated 'ghost boutons' on the neuromuscular junctions in third instar larvae is comparable to controls. Scer\GAL4nSyb.PS-driven expression of shvScer\UAS.T:Ivir\HA1 also has no significant effect on the amplitude of either miniature or evoked excitatory postsynaptic potentials.

Expression of shvScer\UAS.cLa driven in hub and cyst cells by Scer\GAL4C833 does not significantly affect hub cell number (up to 35 days old) but does significantly decrease germline stem cell number (at 3, 7, 14, 35 and 50 days post eclosion) in the testes compared to controls. Expression of shvScer\UAS.cLa driven in hub cells by Scer\GAL4upd1.PU does not significantly affect hub cell number (up to 35 days old) in the testes compared to controls. Expression of shvScer\UAS.cLa driven in germ cells by Scer\GAL4nos.UTR.T:Hsim\VP16 does not significantly affect the number of germline stem cells per testes (up to 35 days old) but does significantly increase the number of hub cells at 3 and 50 days post eclosion (but not 7, 14 or 35 days) compared to controls.

Expression of shvScer\UAS.cLa driven by Scer\GAL4C833, Scer\GAL4nos.UTR.T:Hsim\VP16 or Scer\GAL4upd1.PU increases hub cell number per testes in 50 day old flies compared to controls. Expression of shvScer\UAS.cLa driven by Scer\GAL4upd1.PU increases germline stem cell number per testes in 50 day old flies compared to controls.
