Description

Deletion spanning the entire Diedel gene (nucleotides 3R:25318879..25320310 are deleted). The 5' coding portion of the neighbouring CG2310 gene is also removed. Generated by imprecise excision of P{XP}CG2310d06279.

Comment:

A deletion generated by the imprecise excision of P{XP}CG2310d06279 is reported to map to 3R:25318879..25320310 in Release 5 coordinates. It removes all of Diedel as well as the 5' coding region of CG2310.

Detailed Description
Statement

Diedel1/Diedel1 flies show reduced viability (majority die during larval development) and a shorter lifespan compared to wild type. Diedel1/Diedel1 flies show reduced survival after immune challenge with a sublethal dose of Sindbis virus compared to wild type.

Diedel1/Diedel1 flies are not sensitive (viability similar to wild type response) to the slowly replicating virus VSV, the fast replicating viruses Drosophila C virus, Cricket Paralysis virus or Flock House virus, the fungus Beauveria bassiana, the Gram-positive bacteria Enterococcus faecalis or the Gram-negative bacteria Enterobacter cloacae.

Antibiotic treatment does not improve survival rates of Diedel1/Diedel1 flies.

Additional Comments
Genetic Interactions
Statement
Reference

Presence of keyc02831/keyc02831 partially suppresses the shorter lifespan in Diedel1/Diedel1 flies both in the absence of immune challenge and after Sindbis virus infection. Presence of imd1/imd1 (but not Dif1/Dif1) partially suppresses the shorter lifespan in Diedel1/Diedel1 flies after Sindbis virus infection.

Xenogenetic Interactions
Statement
Reference

Zzzz\SfAV-1a-dieScer\UAS.cLa expression driven by Scer\GAL4Act5C.PI partially suppresses the shorter lifespan seen in Diedel1/Diedel1 flies.

Complementation and Rescue Data
Comments

Expression of DiedelScer\UAS.cLa driven by Scer\GAL4Act5C.PI rescues the shorter lifespan seen in Diedel1/Diedel1 flies.
