Approximately 57% of Scer\GAL4c729>ERRdsRNA.Scer\UAS.THFC males are infertile.
Approximately 45% of males expressing ERRdsRNA.Scer\UAS.THFC under the control of the cyst-cell specific driver Scer\GAL4C587 at 28[o]C.
88% of the Scer\GAL4c729>ERRdsRNA.Scer\UAS.THFC males, and 77% of the Scer\GAL4C587>ERRdsRNA.Scer\UAS.THFC males have abnormal testis morphology, changing from the typical long tubular shape to a small and oval-shaped structure. Upon dissection, all germ cell stages are observed in most of the morphologically normal and many of the morphologically abnormal testes expressing ERRdsRNA.Scer\UAS.THFC under the control of either driver.
Germ cells, hub cells and mature cyst cells are present in testes expressing ERRdsRNA.Scer\UAS.THFC. However, the number of pre-meiotic germ cells (gonioblasts, spermatogonia and spermatocytes) is strikingly reduced in Scer\GAL4c729>ERRdsRNA.Scer\UAS.THFC testes with morphological defects. Compared with wild-type, increased cell proliferation is detected in ERRdsRNA.Scer\UAS.THFC-expressing testes.
