A Ubi-p63E promoter drives expression of a mutated form of rhea, which contains the amino acid replacement L334R (this mutation specifically abrogates the integrin-activating function of rhea without substantially affecting the ability of the rhea head to bind to integrin). The protein is tagged with EGFP.
rheaL334R.Ubi-p63E.EGFP partially rescues Df(3L)79a
Many embryos lacking maternal and zygotic rhea function (homozygous Df(3L)79a embryos derived from homozygous Df(3L)79a female germline clones) are able to hatch when rescued by maternally supplied rheaL334R.Ubi-p63E.T:Avic\GFP-EGFP. The rescued embryos do not have germband retraction or dorsal closure defects, but approximately 20% show muscle attachment defects at late stage 17.
