Few mutant females survive to adulthood (most die at the end of embryogenesis or as early larvae) and many adult males have slight defects in wing patterning (a posterior enlargement or fused alula is seen). Mutants show loss of ventral denticles from the first three denticle rows, but the polarity of the remaining denticles is normal.
Females carrying homozygous follicle cell clones produce eggs with variable morphological defects. In severe cases, the operculum is enlarged and the dorsal appendages are lost.
