Detailed Description

lbeeve.SS larvae have a reduced number of pericardial cells.

Morphogenesis of the myocardium is moderately affected in lbeeve.SS embryos. Disorganization and loss of dorsal skeletal muscles is also observed.

There is a significant reduction in heart diameter in 1 week old lbeeve.SS adult flies.

Diastolic and systolic diameters of live lbeeve.SS adult hearts in A4 abdominal segments are significantly reduced compared to controls. This effect is less pronounced in A3 segments, while it is little changed in the conical chamber in A2.

Adult lbeeve.SS hearts show a normal, regular arrangement of transverse myofibrils within the tin-expressing myocardium. In contrast, the spacing of Z-lines and the parallel arrangement of myofibrils are significantly defective in the longitudinal heart-associated muscles of lbeeve.SS hearts.

The following cardiac phenotypes are observed in lbeeve.SS flies: 1) non-contractile asystolic heart periods or temporary cardiac arrest; 2) double or multiple beats within otherwise regular periods; 3) varying duration of diastolic intervals resulting in arrhythmias.
