UASt regulatory sequences drive expression of a 500bp inverted repeat.
Expressing PisdNIG.5991R under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PU induces light-dependent ommatidial degeneration (ommatidium disruption and rhabdomere loss), associated with retinal apoptosis. Retinal cells fail to form large autophagosomes/autolysosomes in response to light exposure. Ommatidial degeneration occurs in adults reared under constant light for 5d or under blue light for 10min followed by 5d of darkness.
