Description

Scer\FLP1-mediated recombination between the two progenitor insertions has deleted the intervening genomic sequence (removing most of oa2 except the 5' UTR and first coding exon). A reconstituted PBac{WHr} element remains at the deletion site.

Detailed Description

The number of natural synaptopods (motile filopodia-like extensions) at type II neuromuscular junctions is significantly increased in homozygous and oa21/Df(3R)Exel6191 third instar larvae compared to wild type. The number of type II boutons at the neuromuscular junction is also increased in these larvae.

In contrast to wild type, type II neuromuscular junctions do not show an increase in the number of natural synaptopods in response to octopamine in homozygous and oa21/Df(3R)Exel6191 third instar larvae. Similarly, no increase in the number of natural synaptopods in response to forskolin is seen in homozygous larvae, in contrast to wild type.

Homozygous and oa21/Df(3R)Exel6191 third instar larvae show a significant increase in the number of type I boutons at the neuromuscular junction compared to wild type.

In contrast to wild type, homozygous and oa21/Df(3R)Exel6191 larvae fail to respond to starvation by increasing locomotor speed, although these animals also have a reduced basal locomotor speed under non-starvation conditions.

G-oα47A007/+ ; oa21/+ double heterozygous third instar larvae show a significant increase in the number of natural synaptopods (motile filopodia-like extensions) and type II boutons at the type II neuromuscular junction compared to wild type. The number of type I boutons at the neuromuscular junction is also increased in these animals.

The reduction in the number of natural synaptopods and number of type II boutons at the type II neuromuscular junction which is seen in third instar larvae expressing dncScer\UAS.cCa under the control of Scer\GAL4Tdc2.PC is not altered if the larvae are also homozygous for oa21.

The reduction in the number of natural synaptopods at the type II neuromuscular junction which is seen in rut2080 third instar larvae is not altered if the larvae are also mutant for oa21.

The number of natural synaptopods and type II boutons at the type II neuromuscular junction in Octβ2Rf05679 oa21 double mutants is significantly higher than that seen in Octβ2Rf05679 single mutants and is similar to the number in wild-type controls.
