elgi1/elgi1, elgi1/elgi2 and elgi1/Df(3L)BSC575 (but not elgi1/+) flies exhibit a significant increase in size of the wing and a significantly reduced spacing between the anterior and posterior cross veins when compared to control adults.

elgi1 homozygotes exhibit significantly larger wing discs when compared to control third instar larvae.

elgi1/elgi1 and elgi1/Df(3L)BSC575 flies do not exhibit any defect in wing hair polarity when compared to control adults.

Mutant females have normal ovarian morphology and are fertile, but progression from prophase I to metaphase I occurs prematurely in the mutant oocytes. Nuclear envelope breakdown in the mutant oocytes also occurs prematurely.

Stage 14 mutant oocytes are dehydrated, as occurs in wild-type oocytes at this stage.

elgi1/elgi2 oocytes undergo a premature metaphase I.
