R7 and R8 projections in the medulla are disorganised in mutant adult brains.
Mutant R7 cells in an otherwise wild-type brain form a normal projection pattern in the medulla.
Mutant L1 neurons in an otherwise wild-type background arborise in the correct layers (m1 and m5) of the medulla. However, these arbors are no longer restricted to a single column (67%) and often extend over several columnar units; the neurons form terminal structures within the appropriate layers in adjacent columns. The phenotype is seen in m1, in m5 or in both layers.
Mutant L2 neurons in an otherwise wild-type background are indistinguishable from wild type.
