Expression of dltdsRNA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4ey.PH causes small eyes. Expression of dltdsRNA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4ptc-559.1 in the wing disc epithelium causes a reduction in cell number; wild-type wings have about eighteen cells separating the longitudinal veins L3 and L4, while there are only about 16 cells, of slightly increased cell size, in the corresponding place of Scer\GAL4ptc-559.1>dltdsRNA.Scer\UAS wings. Expression of higher levels of dltdsRNA.Scer\UAS, still driven by Scer\GAL4ptc-559.1, results in a further reduction in cell number, a loss of crossvein 1 and a multiple wing hair phenotype. Occasionally, necrotic cells are observed. The removal of one copy of dlt enhances this phenotype.

Coexpression of dltdsRNA.Scer\UAS and CycEScer\UAS.cLa, both under the control of Scer\GAL4ptc-559.1, results in a dramatic loss of wing cells. Expression of dltdsRNA.Scer\UAS in a CycEunspecified heterozygous mutant background causes only a very moderate decrease in the number of wing cells. Coexpression of dltdsRNA.Scer\UAS with either CycAScer\UAS.T:Ivir\HA1 or stgScer\UAS.cNa (all driven by Scer\GAL4ptc-559.1) has little or no effect on the dltdsRNA.Scer\UAS wing cell phenotype.

Xenogenetic Interactions
Statement
Reference

Coexpression of dltdsRNA.Scer\UAS, driven by Scer\GAL4ptc-559.1, and BacA\p35Scer\UAS.cHa does not alter the number of surviving cells in the wing. However, the dorsal and ventral wing blades are often detached in these mutants and the L3 vein appears broader.
