bab2E4/Df(3L)babAr07 flies have ectopic sex combs on tarsal segment 2 (7-8 bristles) and tarsal segment 3 (3-4 bristles) and show fusion of tarsal segments 4 and 5. Expression of bab1Scer\UAS.cGa under the control of Scer\GAL4bab1-Pgal4-2 partially rescues the mutant leg phenotypes of bab2E4/Df(3L)babAr07 flies; there is no sex comb on tarsal segment 3, tarsal segments 4 and 5 are separated by a well-defined joint but there is a small sex comb on tarsal segment 2 (1-2 bristles). Expression of bab24.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4bab1-Pgal4-2 fully rescues the mutant leg phenotypes of bab2E4/Df(3L)babAr07 flies; tarsal segments 2 and 3 do not have any sex combs and tarsal segments 4 and 5 are always properly separated. bab2E4/Df(3L)babAr07 females have ovaries of reduced size which contain only a few follicles with abnormal orientation. They are subfertile and lay very few eggs. These defects are partially rescued by bab1Scer\UAS.cGa expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4bab1-Pgal4-2 and are fully rescued by bab24.Scer\UAS expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4bab1-Pgal4-2. bab2E4/Df(3L)babAr07 females show increased abdominal pigmentation; segments A5 and A6 are fully pigmented. This defect is not rescued by bab24.Scer\UAS expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4bab1-Pgal4-2.

Tarsal joints are fused or absent in Df(3L)babAr07/Df(3L)babAr07 animals and the a4/a5 and a5/arista joints are missing.

Homozygous Df(3L)babAr07 females have a very strong mutant ovary phenotype; the ovaries are very small and no developing follicles are seen. Df(3L)babAr07 homozygotes have a very strong mutant leg phenotype.

Df(3L)babAr07/+ females shows male-specific pigmentation of A5 and A6. Df(3L)babAr07/Df(3L)babAr07 males and females show ectopic pigmentation in A2-A7 tergites, A4-A7 sternites and occasionally in the A1 tergite. Df(3L)babAr07/Df(3L)babAr07 females expression of posterior morphological characters is increased: trichomes are absent from A7 tergite and sternite and the number of bristles on A6 and A7 sternites is reduced. A6 sternite bears some resemblance to the A6 sternite of males or the A7 sternite of females. The thorn bristles normally present in A8 are replaced by wavy bristles typical of the male A9 genital arch. The ectopic male pigmentation seen in Df(3L)babAr07/+ females is suppressed by Df(3R)Ubx-RS4-8/+.
