Expression of ovo^{D1.Scer\UAS.cAa} under the control of Scer\GAL4^Bx-MS1096 strongly reduces trichome density in the thorax. The microchaete shafts fail to extend and have an abortive morphology. Wing hair formation is prevented and the wing has a naked surface. Pupal F-actin prehairs in the wing are not formed in these animals. Clones in the wing expressing ovo^{D1.Scer\UAS.cAa} under the control of Scer\GAL4^αTub84B.PP that are induced up to 8 hours after puparium formation (APF) prevent actin prehair formation or strongly reduced the length of prehairs. Clones induced up to 18 hours APF impair prehair formation. Expression of ovo^{D1.Scer\UAS.cAa} under the control of Scer\GAL4^GMR.PF results in a reduction in eye size with ommatidial fusions and a lack of bristles.
