adult thorax & trichome, with Scer\GAL4Bx-MS1096
Expression of ovoB2.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4bab1-GAL4-U produces shorter tarsi than normal which lack all joints.
Expression of ovoB2.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4Bx-MS1096 increases the density and length of wing hairs, leading to a spectacular hairy phenotype. Trichome density in the notum is also increased. F-actin pupal prehairs in the wing are longer than normal in these animals and supernumerary prehairs are formed (with up to eight actin prehairs in a single cell). The ectopic prehairs retain a normal distal-most location and orientation in the cell. Clones in the wing expressing ovoB2.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4αTub84B.PP that are induced up to 8 hours after puparium formation (APF) result in both multiple prehairs and prehairs that are longer than normal. Longer prehairs than normal are observed in clones induced up to 14 hours APF in the intervein domains and up to 18 hours APF in the veins. Expression of ovoB2.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF results in fewer interommatidial bristles than normal in the eye and the surface of the ommatidia is studded with a dense array of ectopic cuticular extensions. The regular arrangement of the rhabdomeres is disrupted in these animals and they appear to be fused.
Expression of ovoB2.Scer\UAS in the embryo under the control of Scer\GAL4e22c induces the formation of extra denticles in the region of each segment that normally forms naked cuticle.
