Expression of a Rap1 cDNA is driven by a heat shock promoter.
Daily 30 minute heat shocks from day 3 to day 7 of development rescue the larval lethality of RrvB1/Df(3L)R-E. Flies are morphologically wild type - except under minimal heat shock conditions when eyes are roughened. Rescued flies can survive without further heat shock for weeks though show a higher mortality than their wild type siblings. Rescued females stop laying eggs within a day or two of heat shock cessation.
