Assayed in D.melanogaster. Insertion of foreign DNA severely inhibits somatic excision of the transposon. Construct also exhibits great, though not complete, stability in the germline, even in the presence of a germline specific transposase source. Rare germline events of transposition and excision are identified. Examination of the excision products yields evidence of template-dependent gap repair, analogous to that previously reported for the P-element.
