    Detailed Description

Homozygous embryos show weak posterior transformation of abdominal segments, which is strongly enhanced in combination with other Pc like mutants. Heterozygous males sometimes have sex combs on the second or third legs.

Abdominal segments in the embryo are transformed posteriorly. In the strongest alleles, the first abdominal segment resembles the second abdominal segment, and abdominal segments 2-7 are transformed to more posterior segments, while the head and thorax are normal. Weaker alleles affect only the more posterior segments. In Pclunspecified Scmunspecified double mutants, all denticle bands are similar to each other, and resemble A8 of wild-type embryos, although the thorax appears less transformed as the Keilin's organs are present. Head involution does not occur. A prominent abdominal denticle appears on the dorsal surface of the head and a few abdominal denticles are found behind the floor of the pharynx. Psc1 Asxunspecified Pclunspecified triple mutant embryos are characterised by a tandem array of posterior abdominal segments including up to four abdominal denticle bands in the head region. This phenotype is suppressed in embryos also lacking the bithorax complex region.

    Reference

The transformation seen in Pclunspecified heterozygotes is dominantly enhanced by Su(z)121, giving additional sex comb teeth on the second and third legs in male double heterozygous flies.
