Expression in wild type does not produce a germ cell migration phenotype. Additional gonadal mesodermal cells are present in embryos when a 1 hour heat shock is administered at 5 hours AEL. A similarly increased number of somatic gonadal precursors (SGPs) appears at stage 11.
One hour heat shock administered to 3 hour embryos produces defects in the developing CNS. Heat shocks during larval and pupal stages causes semi-lethality. Adult survivors of third instar larval heat shocks generally display a pronounced eye roughening in the posterior region accompanied by a reduction in eye size. Adult survivors of larval and pupal heat shocks often have missing, misplaced and duplicated thoracic macrochaetae.
