tok1 homozygous embryos exhibit longitudinal axons that are greatly disrupted, fail to form distinct fascicles, stall at segment boundaries and occasionally leave the CNS entirely.
tok1 homozygous pioneer axons stall during the initial projection of axons across the segment boundary (stage 13) and sometimes prematurely cross the midline or exit the CNS. Disruption to the early axon scaffold is amplified in later stages as subsequent axons compound the guidance errors. tok1 homozygous embryos also exhibit disorganized neuron cell bodies.
