Expression is detected during stage 10 in 6-8 cells on one side of the Malpighian tubules overlapping the rho and S expression domains, and later, at low levels in several cells in the tip region.

In embryonic tracheal system: expressed in the growing tips of the developing primary branches and in the outgrowing secondary branches.
