Description

A 6.0kb XbaI EcoRI genomic fragment, extending from coordinate +10 to +16, contains ~650bp upstream of the presumed start site of Su(H) transcription as well as at least 1kb of 3' flanking sequence. In addition CIAPIN1 transcription unit is truncated 59bp downstream of the apparent start site and encodes the very 3' end of ck transcripts.

The transepithelial potential (TEP) and mechanoreceptor potential (MRP) of mechanosensory bristles of flies carrying Su(H)+t6.0 in a Su(H)unspecified background is normal. The mechanoreceptor current (MRC) is normal. Flies carrying six copies of Su(H)+t6.0 in a wild-type background show double-socket bristles (flies carrying two copies of Su(H)+t6.0 in a wild-type background never show this phenotype).

Cells at the border of a clone expressing four copies of Su(H) show a bias to adopting an epidermal fate.

High copy numbers of this Su(H)+ allele cause double socket phenotype similar to that produced by H hypomorphic alleles. In addition, those specific macrochaetae that are most sensitive to the loss of H function fail to appear.

Comments

One copy of P{Su(H)+6.0} rescues the imaginal disc neurogenic phenotype and recessive pupal lethality of strong loss of function alleles. Also the imaginal discs of Su(H)8/Su(H)2 heterozygotes have a wild type pattern of single sensory organ precursors (SOPs) and the adults are fully viable and wild type in phenotype. The dominant suppression of H2 double socket phenotype by Su(H)8 can be alleviated by one copy of P{Su(H)+6.0}.
