The abdominal tissue of ash125/ash127 transheterozygotes has homeotic transformations which include part of the second abdominal segment transformed to the first abdominal segment and the presence as a partial seventh tergite in males.
The inserted P element is responsible for the mutant phenotype: in wild type revertants the insertion is either missing or altered. Range of lethality for transheterozygotes extends from the third larval instar for the most severe alleles to the pharate adult stage for the least severe alleles.
