repo1 mutants do not exhibit any changes in neuromuscular junction size or in the number of synaptic boutons at the third instar larval stage.
repo1/repo03702 mutants exhibit an increase in mEJP synaptic potential amplitude, compared to wild-type.
20% of animals show a retinal axon projection pattern similar to that of argos mutants. The morphology of the lamina neuropil is normal. Fasciculation of retinal axons in the optic stalk was disordered in ~10% of repo1 mutants examined.
Homozygotes exhibit an age-dependent reverse polarity ERG recording. The lamina layer exhibits abnormalities and neural degeneration (lamina neurons and glia exhibit features of apoptosis) that becomes more pronounced in older flies. Retinal degeneration proceeds laminar cell death.
Homozygous viable. repo ERG phenotype, ERG has a reversed polarity attributable to a cell type other than photoreceptor cells. Heterozygotes with repo03702 are semi-lethal, heterozygotes with repo00692, repo02138 and Df(3R)P14 are lethal.
Precise excision of the P-element causes reversion of the mutant phenotype to wild type.
Mutant ERG phenotype closely resembles that of hrp1.
